project brief
Project brief – Delivered comprehensive fire behavior modeling, fire spread analysis, and perimeter progression mapping for the 2007 Witch and Guejito Fires in San Diego County, reconstructing how both incidents evolved during the regional wildland fire siege. The work integrated multi-day fire behavior, wind patterns, and topographic influences to document the sequence and extent of fire spread across the affected landscape.

The challenge
Analyze two overlapping, wind-driven wildfires occurring during an intense regional fire siege, where rapidly changing conditions, multiple ignition points, and complex terrain made it difficult to untangle individual fire pathways and timelines.
project goals
Rebuild a clear, defensible record of fire spread and perimeter growth, quantify how weather and fuels influenced extreme runs, and produce detailed progression maps and narratives suitable for technical, planning, and legal review.
the result
An extensive fire behavior and progression analysis package that clarified the development of the Witch and Guejito Fires, supported cause-and-effect evaluations, and provided a technical foundation for post-incident assessment, mitigation planning, and potential litigation support.
